[edit] Summary
In "Moments of Transition", Joxer is dead, and Ares wants to change that. But he will learn that the price to get Joxer back is a heavy one.
In "Between Sunsets and Dawn", Ares and Joxer try to get used to their new life together, but Ares is determined to regain his sword.
In "Casualties of War", Ares must enlist Xena's help once again. But Xena and Gabrielle are still trying to get used to his and Joxer's relationship. In the end, a new order is restored, but situations have still changed dramatically for our characters.
The series involves a cast of characters from the Xena and Hercules universe, including Xena, Gabrielle, Aphrodite, and Strife.
[edit] Story History
This story was first conceived of by sidewinder as the author's reaction to and against the way the Ares/Joxer relationship was typically being portrayed (usually based on the characterizations and models of Althea's War God stories, or Rose Ferguson's "Love Potion Number Nine". The author also wished to examine the way a reversal of power within the Ares/Joxer relationship would affect it and what both characters would learn from the experience (a theme the author will admit to being fond of exploring in several of her fandoms).
[edit] Fandom Reactions
This series was well-received within Xena slash fandom. It was pointed to as an example of good characterization, which was sometimes said to be lacking in Ares/Joxer slash.[1]
It won several awards in the first joxerotica mailing list awards, including:
- Best Xenaverse Series
- Most angst-filled story or series
- Best characterization of a non-Ted character in a story or series (Ares)
