Daisuke-bashing occured occasionally during the run of the show; fans compared Daisuke unfavorably to Yagami Taichi and/or exploited the apparent dislike/distrust that the other Chosen Children habored toward Daisuke. This occured purely in the English-speaking fandom, as one of the writers for the English show changed Daisuke's character as well as added the other Chosen Children's negative feelings toward him. The LiveJournal community Daisuke_Support was founded on February 29, 2004 in reponse to the castigation.
An example of Daisuke-bashing, as well as Motomiya-bashing (in which his sister Jun is also bashed), can be found on the no longer updated web site THAT Digimon site:
Family: Mrs. Motomiya (poor woman to have spawned Daisuke AND Jun) (especially Jun), Mr. Motomiya (even HE notices how dense his children are) (Most parents will deny and support their children. Nope, not these people. They'll agree with' ya.), Grandparents (They're nice people, but even THEY know the kids are dense: "She's just about as sharp as Davis..."), Jun Motomiya (Spawn of satin) (Evil Matt-stalking bitch, if you're going to stalk, at least be subtle!) (Yama-kun deserves better! You will never have him!) (And what’s with her hair? She’s trying to get it on with Matt so she’s copying Taichi.) (It went horribly wrong)
Digimental: Courage (Taichi wannabe), Friendship (He'll never be angsty enough for it), Miracles (the golden digiegg, at least it’s his own attribute...) (it's a miracle he survived long enough to use it)[1]
The site Die Dai has similar thoughts on Daisuke:
Davis. . .he smells like cheese. He is a slimeball who thinks he is as cool as Tai, sporting his goggles and all, BUT HE'S NOT!! He also thinks that Kari is his girl BUT she states quites clearly that she is not! He is stupid and selfish and deserves the love of a rock.[2]
Some Takari fans bashed Daisuke because he competed with Takaishi Takeru for Yagami Hikari's affection. The site Die Dai features an example of this, too.
Die Dai? you say. Well here is why i don't like Davis:
1. He is cocky
2. He is possessive over Kari
3. He doesn't make a very good leader
4. He says that Kari is his girl (when in fact she is TK's [3]
Some Daisuke bashes felt his leaders were something less then desirable:Davis fulfilled all the usual typical goggle boy requirements. [Head]strong, brave, not too bright, but always a natural born leader. Those are all great, but it’s nothing the others on this list haven’t done. The major difference between Davis and the other goggle boys is that his circumstances weren’t quite as overwhelming. You see, while the others on this list all had to learn on the fly as to how they’re supposed to lead their Digidestined team to save two worlds, Davis had the luxury of Taichi there to teach and advise. Taichi is the real leader of the chosen children, not Davis.
