[edit] Introduction
Mystery Science Theater 3000 was a TV that ran on Comedy Central and then the Sci-Fi channel. It ended in 1999, but reruns of the final three seasons aired on the Sci-Fi channel until 2004.
The shows premise was unique - hosts (first Joel Robinson and then Mike Nelson, and two robots) watched and made running commentary on movies. The movies used in the shows were deliberately chosen for their poor quality - the worse the movie, the better.
In regards to fandom, an MST refers to a story (which has been written by someone else) with lines of the reader's (and thus, the author of the MST [but not the author of the original story]) thoughts interspersed with the original text.
