Nickolaus Pacione
From Fan History Wiki
Nickolaus Pacione is a micro-press writer and publisher who joined FanFiction.net in 2004, but been active with FictionPress.com and AuthorsDen.com (joined AuthorsDen in 2002.) His work appeared in Withersin Magazine 1.1 with his non-fiction story APT 2W and been writing original horror fiction since 1990. Credited for creating a science fiction story called LAKE FOSSIL which stemmed his imprint on lulu.com.
He will allow fan fiction of LAKE FOSSIL as long it isn't slash fiction and the only rule is he gets to publish it in his magazine. Johnny Alien is created by a former classmate of his at Glenbard East High School, whose a comic book artist.
He writes predominately original fiction and has written a story that opened the world up to debate of a story was original or fan fiction because it had traits of both, The Statue was one of those stories he did this by writing all the characters and plot being his own. The delivery borrowed from The Twilight Zone by stepping in and out of the story as it's narrator, as well as using the name "Serling" for two of his characters. The set up was a photograph he took, and wrote a blog about the photograph. Additionally, he wrote a story called "Ghosts of War" that used the basic plot of the movie "The Crow" (revenge after death via a crow returning the soul of the dead to the body) which also suffered from a lack of research on World War II.

[edit] General biography
The author's been active with writing horror and Science fiction since 1990, but got published with his first short story in 2004 on an anthology called Reality Check: An Anthology Of Horror. (Author, Joni Latham got published with Royal Wedding here and had a hand in editing his short story, Bite of the Spider.) He published Jason Andrew in Tabloid Purposes 3 and IV, then Trent Roman in Quakes And Storms: A Natural Disaster Anthology. (Jason Andrew runs an imprint which published an anthology titled Into The Dreamlands.) He will toy with public domain characters and see if he can modernize the timeline in some way.
His work in horror tends to fall into the inspiration of Richard Matheson, The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. The story he wrote that appears in the comic section of Fanfiction.net is actually an idea that came about from a former classmate of his.
In September 2006, he sold his collaborative novella to Naked Snake Press. That same year he sold a short story to Specficworld.com titled FLYING CIGARS.
Born in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, August 3, 1976. Original fiction is his main territory, but will occasionally find a unique idea for a story watching The History Channel and The Travel Channel when they show some of the paranormal places. However, his lack of research often damages a story, as seen in "Ghosts of War" and "Leviathan's Ghost" stories.
In 2004, he wrote a controversial short story that took a jab at slash writers (and featured a very prominent 'Gary Sue' character) and it got published on a horror e-zine called The House of Pain. He's been writing predominately original fiction, and sold work to magazines as of 2005 and 2006. His published career started online in 1997 but his print career started in 2004 when he put out his imprint anthology series.
He scouts the public domain fandoms for writers for his magazine or anthologies. Encourages fan fiction writers of horror to try their hand at original fiction. Guidelines for his anthologies and the magazine are found on Ralan.com. He claims he finds the world of writers who does fan fiction exclusively strange world and shares a similar mindset with other science fiction authors who frown upon it (with his horror work) although he has created his own fan fiction works. He finds the loop hole in certain places and writes original fiction in the vein of the fan fiction seen on site.
In 2008 two of his horror anthologies were temporarily removed from his storefront after authors (who had not been paid) joined together and petitioned that the works be removed. He claimed that the authors who demanded their works be removed from those anthologies were desecrating the memory of deceased author Ms. Malenky in their insistence that they be compensated for their work. During this time, he also demanded that a third party who purchased a CD ROM copy of his works give the stories over to him for free, as he claims to have lost the original galleys.
[edit] Fan Fiction Policy
Pacione will not allow slash stories to be written off his original works. There are certain stories he will allow it from, but as long it is submitted to his magazine and no where else on the web. His magazine The Ethereal Gazette will be the place he allows it, but with heavy restrictions. He will not allow writers to use the titles LAKE FOSSIL IV and numbered titles, and encourages them to be well read in the series before going on and doing so.
"As long you don't write slash stories of my works along with getting to publish the story I am fine with it, but keep in mind do the fact checking first because some of the places I wrote about in my fiction the haunted places are real. Just keep the integrity of the characters as I originally wrote them or if you decide to write in the universe of the story, include your own characters, this is the only story I will allow fan fiction to be written from, LAKE FOSSIL. Just as long it isn't a sequel to the story. I will publish your story in the magazine I helm. I have the same concerns as Ms. Rice when fan fiction is concerned. Be respectful of my wishes when it comes to not wanting slash stories written from my work, I would more likely pull you aside and encourage you to write stories with your own characters and plots, you'd be proud of it a little more."Nickolaus Pacione's statement on an old blog.
[edit] Controversies
The controversy Nickolaus Pacione had caused was taking a stand for writers who don't write slash fiction and writers who do not use a "pro-gay" slant to their works, as well as claiming to be taking a stand against "liberal agenda being shoved down everyone's throats", and claims he is a card carrying member of the Republican Party. His blog on myspace makes a strong statement about writers who toy with the idea of writing slash stories from real people because someone actually had the idea of writing a real person slash story of himself and a young son the State removed from his care for the welfare of the child in 1999.
This became the new short story he's sending around to magazines called House of Cards. It is one story that he wrote which came off an article he wrote on Associated Content. He has also been threatening other writers with a story called "copyright infringement" which he threatens to expose other writers as thieves.
Additionally, he has generated a lot of controversy with his anti-homosexual stance. Quoted from his Deviant-Art page and blogs:
"Homophobia is welcomed with open arms, authors must be STRAIGHT to be published in this one."-Deviant Art
"Homophobic stories are very welcome in Tabloid Purposes IV -- I am tired of the pro-gay bias going around. No form of gay sex is permitted in the story, but I will allow the beating up of a fag in a story." From his Blog
Additional controversy has been generated by the recent difficulties he has faced with several authors demanding to be paid, two of his anthologies being removed from sale, and with Pacione's response that the author's demands have desecrated the memory of deceased author Ms. Malenky. This controversy has led to a lot of ill-will.
Finally, controversy has been generated by the fact he takes a hard-line view against sex, homosexuality, and other activities, but yet a screenshot posted by the author himself revealed that he had recently been using his Yahoo toolbar to search for "bondage sleepsack".

He doesn't write any pairings. Traditional horror writer and plays off his real life for inspiration for some stories, occasionally stepping into the shoes Rod Serling to play the role of narrator. The scare is more the focus with him when he writes horror, and when he does the postmodern style it's hard to classify exactly what he does. Mostly because his "style" seems to revolve around poor grammar and lack of following established methods for telling stories. Many of his stories have no climax or resolution, the characters do not seem to be detailed, nor the scenery or anything else. His writing style mainly falls back on "too XXXXX to describe", which he uses to avoid descriptions.
