Northern Illinois University is located in DeKalb, Illinois. The university has a number of clubs and organizations which have held fandom related events, including a comics convention. Student organizations frequently bring guest speakers to the campus in order to speak to students and the local population which are of interests to people in fandom, including Kevin Smith and contestants from Survivor.
