On October 1, 1956, Bob Hope makes a guest appearance on I Love Lucy in the episode entitled, "Lucy and Bob Hope" (ep. 6.1), to plug his new film, The Iron Petticoat.
Between August and October 1994, Cort Dougan took over John Ruchak's X-Files fan fiction ftp archive.
Beginning in October 1998, the importance of alt.tv.x-files.creative in X-Files fan fiction community declined.
On October 1, 1999, The Basement, an X-Files slash fan fiction archive, was founded. [1]

On October 1, 2005, Fanfic100, a LiveJournal community, is created with its premise of a 100-story challenge based on a pre-determined set of topics. It is incredibly popular, and quickly grows into a massive collection of fan fiction.
