Between August and October 1994, Cort Dougan took over John Ruchak's X-Files fan fiction ftp archive.
Beginning in October 1998, the importance of alt.tv.x-files.creative in X-Files fan fiction community declined.
On October 1, 1999, The Basement, an X-Files slash fan fiction archive, was founded. [1]
On October 1, 2000, the mailing list the_new_charmed_ones was created for Charmed fan fiction. [2]
On October 1, 2000, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister: A Novel by Gregory Maguire was published in the United States.
Fanfic100, a LiveJournal community, is created on October 1, 2005. It's premise, a 100 story challenge based on a pre-determined set of topics, is incredibly popular and it quickly grows into a massive collection of fanfiction.
