[edit] Introduction
After 21 issues of Stardate, Editor-in-Chief Randall Landers was forced to change the name of his fanzine from Stardate to Orion under threat of legal action from FASA, a Star Trek licensee. (The first issue of Orion was Orion 22.) Like Stardate, Orion was meant to be an action-adventure oriented fanzine, but featuring articles, reviews, trivia, artwork as well as the occasional romance, alternate-universe or hurt-comfort piece. The zine ceased publication as a result of a marketing decision (readers were increasingly reticent to purchase a latter fanzine issue without having purchased earlier issues). The publication which replaced Orion was Antares.
Many of the stories originally published in Orion became a part of the established canon of the Orion Universe.
From 1997 until 2008, Antares has published 17 issues, and still maintains an annual publication schedule with new issues released every spring.
