The following definition dates to December 2005 in the Harry Potter fandom:
- plot bunny: an idea that sprouts out of something, sometimes when inappropriate, sometimes just in overabundance. I have heard it used quite positively as well ("I was stalled by I got plotbunnied!" "I love you, you plotbunnied me!") Fanfic-speak for "I just got an idea!" [1]
The following definition dates to 2008 in the Superman fandom:
- Plotbunny - An affectionate term for an idea that sticks in your head and you just HAVE to write it even if it goes nowhere or keeps going off into other ideas.[2]
