Princess Zelda is the titular character from the Zelda series; however, she is not a playable character. Like the other returning characters in the series, it's a misnomer to call Princess Zelda a "character," as most of the Zelda games do not feature the same Princess Zelda.
Zelda also appears in Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers games.

Princess Zelda is paired with numerous characters, but the most popular ship is probably Zelda/Link.
