- From 1989 to 1994, The Relativity Series was written. - alt.ql.creative was created in 1992 so that Quantum Leap fans could post their fan fiction.

- In 1995, the UUFFAAs (Unofficial USENET Fan-Fic Achievement Awards) were given in the various fan fiction communities including the X-Files, Quantum Leap, Star Trek, Mystery Science Theater, comics and Doctor Who.

- In February 1998, Sci-Fi Entertainment ran an article on fan fiction. It referenced the Quantum Leap fan fiction community. An extract of a relevant section of the article says:
