Rikku is Al Bhed, one of the races of Spira. Unlike the other humanoid races (namely the humans and the Guado), Al Bhed do not worship Yevon and therefore use machina without fear of divine retribution. They also speak a different language than the other characters in the game. Some fan fiction authors, such as Gabi-hime, use Rikku's native language in their stories.
[edit] Pairings
Most of the popular pairings featuring Rikku are het, and include Rippal (Rikku/Gippal), Tikku (Rikku/Tidus), and Aurikku (Rikku/Auron).
Two popular femslash pairings are are Rikku/Lulu and Rikku/Paine.
