[edit] Introduction

Ron Weasley is one of the main characters in the Harry Potter series. He is Harry Potter's first, and best, friend. They met on the Hogwarts Express and have been close ever since. Ron is the youngest boy in a family of seven children; he has a younger sister, Ginny. According to J.K. Rowling, after the final battle, Ron became an Auror and helped the Ministry put away Voldemort's Death Eaters. He also helped his older brother, George, run his joke shop after the tragic loss of his twin, Fred, in the Battle of Hogwarts.

[edit] Having babies

The Harry Potter fan fiction community tends to not deal much with babies in the present timeline for most heterosexual pairings. Characters like Ron and Hermione Granger might have children but only after they age to a time when they can give consent. In that case, the babies don't tend act as plot devises to bring characters together but to show a committment as a couple, in a pre-existing relationship. The reader is generally left to understand that the pair is a given for the story, with out a back story needing to be established.

The exception to that is the Snape/Harry (Snarry) pairing. This pairing is frequently the subject of mpreg. It is frequently used in humor stories.

On July 21, 2007 the Harry Potter fandom devoured the last book in the series and in the last few pages we discover that not only are Ron and Hermione married, but they have two children as well: Rose and Hugo.

[edit] Timeline of the Ron part of the Harry Potter fandom

ROMANCE PAIRINGS: Ron and Hermione have plenty of potential -- lots
of sexual tension in that relationship. I think
there's a possibility for Harry and Ginny, although I'm not sure she
is developed enough as a character yet for any of us to think
she's quite right for him. She had such a small role in POA. It will
be interesting to see how that turns out. She could develop
into a character that we will all think is worthy of Harry's romantic
partner. For now, I don't see any of the females currently in
the cast as being quite "up to snuff" (I think Hermione is better with
Ron so I've discounted her) [1]
I too am in the Harry/Hermione camp but I have my own theories about
that, and I also have that sneaking suspicion that Ron
may not be long for the world or that he might not continue to be one
of the good guys. [2]
It's not that I don't like Ron -- who doesn't like Ron? But, as
previously discussed, his insecurities and jealousies make him
unappealing boyfriend material for Hermione, and as for the
'consolation prize' arguement, I think that's condescending not just
to Hermione but to Ron as well. [3]
* Cassie ponders about where to fit a / into DS.* My favorite pairing
after Harry/Draco (which I really can't make work) is Remus/Sirius,
and Sirius needs to marry Narcissa so H&D can stay related, and
anyway, Remus has been turned, possibly permanently, into a big wolf.
That leaves Ron, I guess, available for.....um.....well, we'll see.
  • grins* The Ron/Draco knife-throwing scene I believe started out as a
response to the Teenage Witches who asked for a scene with Ron and
Draco where Draco starts taking off his clothes. They tend to ask for
peculiar things, but then they are peculiar people. ;)[5]
  • On January 9, 2001, Ebony coined the term One Big Happy Weasley Family. [6] She will use the term again on January 22, 2001 with the acronym attached to it: "Nah, no-shipping is not a disorder at all! Just a preference. Now, the condition known as the One Big Happy Weasley Family (OBHWF) syndrome... *that's* a disorder. ;-)" [7][8] This term became one used against canon purists, intended to be disparaging. It would later be frequently used by other members of the Inner Circle like Heidi8 and Cassandra Claire. According to various sources, Ebony's creation of this phrase was one of the reasons that users from sites such as Sugar Quill and canon purist would not like her as a person. Despite this, the term almost immediately became co-opted by Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny fans as a way of insulting Ebony and others like her by throwing their words back at them.
  • On February 17, 2001, Cassandra Claire made the following post to HPforGrownUps:
I would MUCH rather see Hermione end up with Draco than with Ron, as long as Draco mends his ways a bit (I don't want him to be "nice" either.) On alternate days, I would rather see Hermione wind up with Draco than with Harry. (A fact which affords Lori much pain, I am aware.) Ron/Hermione actively squicks me, Ron/Harry just puzzles me, and as for Ron/Draco...what CAN they be thinking?
...I don't think this necessarily means that I don't like Ron, which is an accusation often leveled at us H/H types...I like him okay. I just don't like him with Hermione. However, if the books do tend that way, I will survive. After all, Little Women is still one of my favorite childhood books, even though I have never forgiven Louisa May Alcott for what she did to Jo and Laurie -- a horrendous mistake IMHO. [9][10]
This is somewhat of importance as Cassandra Claire is generally associated with either Harry/Hermione or Harry/Draco. Many people forget that, for a time, Cassandra Claire was actively dabbling in the Hermione/Draco ship, a pairing she shared with Heidi.
  • On June 8, 2001, Heidi made a post on the hpslash list which was perceived as an attempt to get slashers to join another mailing list to defend Cassandra Claire's slash writing. [11] The text of this e-mail is:
re: OT: COMPLETLEY OUTRAGED!!!
Punker wrote about Eliza's fanfic site:
I am only posting this because all these things are on a public
message board - (first, a note - Eliza is 14ish, and I don't even
think she's online much these days because she's dealing with final
exams, but...still....)
Eliza has never made any secret that she is an anti-slash person -
back around New Year's there was a long discussion on HP_Fanfiction
about slash - people like Al, Rhysenn, Cassie, Minx and others chimed
in on this issue, and Eliza eventually posted in response to this
post from cassie:

Oh, please, Cassandra, don't do it. Trust me on this; you may think slash is
perfectly accepted my most people, but, call me close-minded, I don't really
care, I believe it's wrong. I'm not going to start preaching at you, and so
far during this entire discussion I've stayed quiet about this, but if you
add a slash, I'm going to stop reading DS, and take the story off my site.
That's not a threat... I'm not trying to scare you into not thinking about
it. Don't get me wrong, you can write what you like... but, even when the
story is good, I have a very hard time getting myself to put it up. Thats
one of the reasons you will NEVER find PoU on my site, not because I think
its not a good story, but because of the ratings. Basically, if you add
slash, you're going to offend a lot of people, including me.
-Eliza, who is wondering how many people are going to start yelling at her
for this.
You can read a lot more on the thread by joining at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HP_FanFiction/ if you want a little
historical perspective on it. Believe me, flaming Eliza will get you
nowhere. She thinks what she thinks - and at the moment, she's not
changing it. Grr. However, DS is still up there, despite, well,
hintiness in some of the more recent chapters of a ben/gareth thing.
Oh well!
The view at the time, on the hpslash (mailing list) mailing list, was that Heidi was trying to get people to rally to Cassandra Claire's defense and create a flame war between the slash and het contingents.
