Below is a partial timeline of fandom related events that took place in Russia.

- In September 1990, ICANN created the domain suffic .su for websites from the Soviet Union. [1]

- "Russia was given the ".ru" domain name in 1994. Other former Soviet republics were also assigned codes." [2]

- On October 14, 1998, the Russian language mailing list alfer was created. [3]

- On February 12, 2003, the Russian language 70s rock focused LiveJournal community ru_rock70 was created. It covered several fandoms including this one. [4]
- On June 3, 2003, the Russian Metallica LiveJournal community ru_metallica was created. [5]
- On September 10, 2003, the Russian language LiveJournal community ru_futurama was created. [6]

- On January 20, 2004, the Russian LiveJournal community ru_simpsons was created. [7]
- On March 8, 2004, the Russian U2 LiveJournal community ru_u2 was created. [8]
- On July 18, 2004, the Russian HIM LiveJournal community ru_h_i_m was created. [9]

- On May 10, 2005, Убивать Человека by Spectra16 became the first Russian language Alias story published on FanFiction.Net. [10][11]
- On July 28, 2005, the Russian language LiveJournal community ru_blur was created. [12]
- On August 18, 2005, the Russian language LiveJournal community ru_spongebob was created. [13]
- On August 30, 2005, the Russian Tomb Raiders LiveJournal community ru_tomb_raider was created. [14] As of August 13, 2007, it is watched by 15 people.
- On September 11, 2005, the Russian language LiveJournal community ru_silenthill was created. [15]

- On February 10, 2006, the LiveJournal community ru_andromeda was created for Russian fans of Andromeda. [16]
- On May 26, 2006, supernatural.ru was created [17] and quickly became the home to the largest Russian language based Supernatural fandom. [18]
- In late August 2007, there were issues with Russian speakers poorly translating works from English into Russian with out permission of the English speaking author. Some of these translations were poorly done, and when this was pointed out, the translator did not fix them. Some Russian readers assumed this was a problem was this the English speaking author or hey loved the story anyway, poor "writing" and all. [19]
- In November 2006, LiveJournal worked to start integrating their Russian users with a site run by Russians. [20]

- On June 2, 2007, the Russian Dexter LiveJournal community we_love_dexter was created. [21]
- On August 7, 2007, the Russian LiveJournal community ru_stardust was created. [22]
- On December 2, 2007, the announcement was made that LiveJournal was sold by SixApart to SUP, a Russian company. [23]
