[edit] Introduction

Xena fandom was subject to numerous shipping wars through the years, and one of the largest splits in the fandom was between the Xena/Gabrielle and Joxer/Gabrielle shippers. At the same time, there were slash writers who were both fans of Xena/Gabrielle and Joxer-slash pairings, who felt ostracized by the mainsteam members of both of the large pairings. The Society for the Unification of Joxer Enthusiasts was formed as an attempt to bring Joxer fans together whether they were slash, het, and/or alt-shippers. Members of the list discussed various pairings and favorite fics, as well as wrote numerous essays to illustrate their points-of-view on Joxer and how he fit into the Xenaverse.

[edit] Mailing list history

  • On July 10, 2000 the Xena mailing list SUJE (Society for the Unification of Joxer Enthusiasts) was founded. It was dedicated to attempting to unite Joxer enthusiasts throughout the fandom, who were quite split between Joxer/Gabrielle shippers and Joxer slash writers (many of whom were also supporters of the Xena/Gabrielle pairing.)[1]
  • On July 14, 2000 the spin-off group SUJE-Adult was created, to host specifically adult-oriented stories and discussion that would not fit the all-ages SUJE list.[2]
  • The Mailing list has been inactive except for spam since July of 2005, and was primarily active from 2000 through 2002.
