Fandom's reaction to the sale of LiveJournal to Sup have been generally unfavorable. Many fear that their freedom of speech will be suppressed by the Russian government. On InsaneJournal, heiko collected links about this topic.[2]

It's not funny, I swear. As a Russian user, I swear - it's not good that SUP buys Livejournal. They're damn heels. It's the end of privacy, at least, for Russian users. We could get out of that bloody "cyrillic sector", now we can't.
It was a period when cyrillic users tried to pretend they're emmigrants to get out.

You don't understand. Livejournal for Russians is a place where free speech is possible. It USED TO BE this. The ONLY place, where we discussed now about cheating in votation, for example. (I mean, you can read about it on some sites, but livejournal is a well-organised society, where information can be recieved very fast) "LiveJournal is big in Russia. Indeed, for many Russians, the site is synonymous not just with blogging, but with the internet itself." Many famous people in Russia have their own blogs... and can express their opinion. We have another blogservices, but their audithory is different. Young girls and boys, you know...
And now... after that many people will move to other blogservices, and the society will be, errr, deorganised. We've already got situations in which SUP deleted journals. Its members read our private posts and even don't try to hide this (I saw the thread in SUP community =/ ).[3]
