Jessica Moore is Sam Winchester's canonical girlfriend in the pilot of the TV series Supernatural. The couple share an apartment and look to be comfortable living together. Extra production notes and a preliminary pilot script posited that Sam and Jess had been living together for about 18 months. At the end of Season one, it was revealed that Sam had been looking at engagement rings preparatory to asking Jessica to marry him.

Jessica's death at the end of the pilot episode arguably sets the stage for much of Sam's mental and emotional state for much of season 1, if not beyond. He is grieving and feeling guilty, and it is revealed that Jessica knew little or nothing about Sam's life prior to him attending Stanford and what she does know is likely to have been inferred or misconstrued from what Sam had said. She was obviously aware he had a brother, but Sam's relationship with his family was demonstrably strained at that point.
All that aside, the couple are affectionate and Jess is extremely proud of Sam's score on the LSAT and thinks everyone should be equally impressed. She takes Dean's sudden appearance in their life with some surprise but no real objections even when she is trying to get more information out of Sam before he leaves for the weekend. In later episodes it's revealed that Sam and Jess may have had a large circle of friends at school.

- The Sam/Jess category in the archives of Supernaturalfic [1] currently list 320 entries. Some of those may be multi-part stories, but the pairing itself is relatively popular in a fandom that has managed to find so many pairing in a two character show. Other communities devoted more to Het or to Sam/Jess exclusively might reflect more stories.
The stories themselves may either take place during the years Sam was at Stanford University, or may be compete AU's in which Jessica either survives the demon's attack or is never attacked in the first place. There are a small number of stories where it was Sam who died in the fire and Dean and Jess turn to one another in mutual grief.
