- On September 16, 1996, FFML (Final Fantasy Mailing List) was created as a place to post Final Fantasy fan fiction.
- On September 16, 2000, 40 Miles from the Sun by Ethereal Prey was published on FanFiction.Net. [1] It was the first Adventures of Sinbad story published on the site.
- On September 12, 2002, FanFiction.Net banned all Real Person Fic (RPF). The Beatles community on the BeatleLinks Fab Forum, which had spent the previous two months complaining about the site, immediately went to work trying to have FanFiction.Net rescind their ban. One of their main arguments for keeping this material was that removing it violated their freedom of speech. By September 21, the petition that was circulating in various fan fiction communities had 2,259 signatures.
- On September 16, 2001, the Zelda_lovers community was founded on LiveJournal.
- On September 16, 2002, doctorwho [2], a LiveJournal community, was created.
- On September 16, 2002, the mailing list Kyoru_romance was created for fans of Kyou x Tohru. [3]
- The last update announced on the SSF-Update mailing list to The Headmaster's Study was on September 16, 2003.[4]
- On September 16, 2007, Robert Jordan, author of the Wheel of Time series, died.
