[edit] Timeline of events
- On February 21, 1946, Alan Rickman was born.
- Snape's Slytherin Society was a Snape fan fiction fansite created sometime in 2000. (Meril: [1]) While it still exists, most of the posters from the fall of 2000 no longer post there.
- Eliza Diawana's "Snape stories were all the rage" [2] around 2000.
- On October 23, 2000, Majolique posted her story, "Midnight Confessions" to the hpslash list. This story is credited as being the first Snape/Harry fan fiction published. [3][4][5]
- On October 31, 2000, Unquiet posted part one of "A Different Lesson" the hpslash mailing list. [6][7][8] Part two of this story was posted to FanFiction.Net. This was another early Snape/Harry story.
- In August 2001, Kangeiko posted "Two Loveable Young Women". [9]
- In August 2001, Telanu began writing her Tea series. [10]
- During the fall of 2001, the Harry Potter fan fiction community started to suffer its first real fractures. Prior to this, almost everyone had been on FanFiction.Net: slashers, canon purists, and fanon enthusiasts. Fiction Alley filled some of the void but not everyone went there. There would be no one big site to replace FanFiction.Net. This fracturing would not necessarily be visible to many parties who were not necessarily aware of the parts who had basically closed themselves off, segments like Snapeslashers. The community would also create a number of redundant archives, which allowed for people to further sequester themselves based on friends and shipping preferences.
- During the fall and winter of 2001, the Harry Potter fandom received a large influx of media fen. These fen included Luthien, Tboy (Lynda), iibnf (Bernice), Ellen Fremedon, and seeker (Brenda Antrim). By and large, these media fen congregated in Snape slash fandom, and specifically on the Snapeslash mailing list found on Yahoo. [11] The new mediafen were largely congregated on LiveJournal. Many of these new media fen became part of the Snape/Harry pairing community. This community had just become popular, in a large part due to Telanu's "Tea" series. [12] It was this group of media fen who had begun to, at this time, use the "smoosh" style pairing names. The term that Snape/Harry slashers ended up using was "Snarry."
- In October 2001, JayKay released the story "Too Wise to Woo Peaceably." [13]
- In November 2001, Luthien wrote the story "Aftermath" in response to a challenge posted by Telanu on the SnapeSlash mailing list. [14]
- By November 2001, Riley's Pawn to Queen was becoming extremely popular, and, with it, new fans joined the Snape/Hermione ship. Posting volume in December 2001 on WIKTT was approximately six times larger than it had been in November 2001. [15]
- On November 16, 2001, the Snapeslash community benefited as a result of the opening of the first Harry Potter move in theaters. This is mostly owed to fans finding Alan Rickman attractive. [16]
- On November 24, 2001, Alia founded the SnapexHarry mailing list. Members of this list included Telanu, Luthien and JayKay. [17]
- On December 1, 2001, Sushi became a Snape/Harry shipper. Her first contribution to this pairing was the story, "Marching off to War." This story is now part of the Civil War series. [18]
- In March 2002, Severus Snape Fuh-Q Fest opened. It was created and organized by Luthien and Tboy. It led to many more Snape/Harry stories. Cybele and Josan wrote their first stories for the Severus Snape Fuh-Q Fest. A number of Minx's early Snape/Harry stories were written for the fest. [19]
- In the fall of 2002, From Dusk Til Dawn, the SS/HP Fuh-q Fest, opened. [20]
