Space: 1999
From Fan History Wiki
Space: 1999 first aired in the United States from 1975 to 1977. In 1976, The Fatality Syndrome became the first fanzine published. Space 1999 Merchandise: Fan Fiction says: "It was written by Chris Yost. Story one in what was conceived to be a series of stories called The Psychon Trilogy, centering on a certain lovely Alphan alien member of the crew." By 1979, The Space: 1999 community had an established its zine tradition with the publication of issues of Alpha Log, Nightmare, and A Space: 1999 Trilogy this year. Other fanzines continued to follow. In 1992, Mark Gardner published the one-shot, The Winds of Time. This fanzine included Doctor Who, Space: 1999 and Voyagers! fan fiction. On April 5, 2000, spazio_1999, a mailing list, was created for Italian fans of Space: 1999 to communicate with each other and to post fan fiction. spazio-1999-2 was created to replace that list because the volume was so high.
As an interesting subset of Fan Fiction, Keith Young took it upon himself to produce high-quality blueprints for Moonbase Alpha, the primary dramatic location of the series. The blueprints detail both areas of the station seen in the series, and other areas he made up himself, all done in exacting detail. Though quite hard to find, they are much sought after by fan fic writers, and the producers of Space: 1999 were so impressed they brought him in to work on a cinematic revival attempt, which ultimately was cancelled.
