In 2005, a member of the fan fiction community recieved a cease and desist letter from Ohio State University for her NCAA Ohio State University women's basketball femslash. The fan was also kicked out of the Rebounders, the Ohio State University Buckeye's booster club. The university informed the NCAA of her actions. (http://parka-girl.livejournal.com/6225.html)
Sheryl Swoopes is a basketball player for the WNBA and came out as a lesbian in October of 2005. During this period and in 2006, the WNBA fan fiction community was hesitant to slash Swoopes because her admission hit to close to home for some and crossed the lines, creating some what of an ick, we don't want to write some thing too real feeling.
