[edit] History

  • In 2001, Italian fan Giovanni Pollastri first met Stewart Copeland and discussef the fan site he had created for him. Giovanni's fan site would soon become the Stewart Copeland Official Site, originally located at www.stewartcopeland.it.[1]
  • On September 27, 2004, the webdomain www.stewartcopeland.net was registered by Eugenio Brambilla. This would be the new home for the Stewart Copeland Official Site, originally created by Giovanni Pollastri. The new site would be headed up by Giovanni and Eugenio, with the assistance of several other fans in Italy.[2]
  • On February 7, 2005, the stewartcopeland.net forum was opened at the Stewart Copeland Official Site.[3] These messageboards would become the primary on-line community for Stewart fans on-line, particularly after Stewart himself registered on the board on March 11 of that year and occasionally participated in the discussion. • On December 21, 2007, Stewart posted his holiday wishes to his fans on his website, referring to them as nutters for the first time, a term which the fans had been using on the messageboard for several months.[5]
  • On June 3, 2009, stewartcopeland.net launched a major redesign.[7] The orange and white color scheme was replaced with a black and grey one, and the content was recategorized and redistributed. Some sections (like a page on the Copelands and an area dedicated to the Police reunion tour) were removed, while others (such as Tours) were added to make room for material previously contained on secondary sites (such as those dedicated to Gizmo). The fan project The Flag, formerly only a part of conversation in the stewartcopeland.net forums, was also incorporated into the main parts of the site, featured prominently on the Tours page and in an article written specifically for the site.[8][9]
  • In September 2009, Copeland's memoir Strange Things Happen was published. The book includes versions of a number of stories originally written for stewartcopeland.net, including Stewart's Dinner Tales and the "Disaster Gig" post. The Afterword of the book mentions and is named after the "The Green Flag," the project conducted by fans from the stewartcopeland.net forums.
