[edit] Introduction
Formalised as a concept by Kielle, Subreality is a meta fandom - essentially a place where fictional characters (and their Writers, and later, Muses) went when they weren't being written. It became hugely popular among the CFAN regulars and spawned various incarnations, reaching the height of its popularity in 1997-1998.
As well as fanfiction, Subreality also 'hosted' the Subreality Round Robins and its off-shoot, the House of Strange Dimensions. The first round robins were hosted on Mirage and Jelpy's Generation X/X-Force archive, and then moved onto their own message board on EZBoard, and then VoyForums.
Subreality also had a rather popular IRC room called #subcafe, where you can often still find someone to chat with.
Things began to wind down in 2000, and with the closure of CFAN in 2003, things died down significantly. Subreality endures, however, with sporadic activity on the mailing list as well as spin-off clubs such as This Time Round [1].
[edit] The Archivists
The first Subreality archive was created and maintained by Image, before the task was taken over by Kielle, up until 2003. Following her withdrawing from comics fandom and then her death in 2005, Subreality Central is kept online by her husband.
In 2005 Qoheleth proposed a new archive, however interest was low and the subject was dropped.
The mailing list is maintained by RowanSeven.
[edit] Archive Policies
Subreality Central is closed to new submissions. The mailing list remains open to anyone who wishes to submit and post.
