Talk:Bandfic
From Fan History Wiki
Parts of this page were compiled kind of hapharzardly into one page, with no attempt to integrate and make sense of it because I've been using them as research notes for an essay I've been working on. The draft of the first part can be found here on RockFic. The page needs more work in including other details which I know and have cites for but are missing. Those haven't been intentionally left out. --Partly_Bouncy 09:23, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
- In regards to organizing this article, perhaps the terminology for the bands should be removed from here and added to that specific band's page? -User:Jae 9/5/07, 11:09AM
- I copy and pasted it from those pages to that site. Removing it might simplify things and make it less cluttered. But that might solve the immediate cluttered problem. --Partly_Bouncy 10:26, 5 September 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Total page rewrite
- I think part of the problem is there is a lot of trivial info here that should just be moved into individual bandom pages. Some of the band's listed in sub-headings have very small fandoms, others that are very big are barely mentioned. I could work on moving the trivial points just into individual bandom's pages and just try to clean up the timeline to represent more important moments in bandom history. --Sidewinder 08:47, 29 December 2007 (CST)
- Lots of it is from those sub pages to begin with. I think it almost needs to be summarized in paragraph form. I know I could easily do that with the history I have but seeing as I keep holding that in reserve... Blarg. :/ Maybe it would be easier to pull the whole thing and almost start over with different headings, less a focus on random timeline events, more on trends in the community: Conventions, fanzines, mailing lists, Usenet, message boards, concerts, publishing, bibliography as headings... and then refill the article with out preconceptions based on the previous content? --Laura 09:09, 29 December 2007 (CST)
- Yeah, I think that would make a lot more sense re:new headings and the like.--Sidewinder 09:30, 29 December 2007 (CST)
- Added that to the to do list at Fanhistory.com:Music to do... and will shortly totally assault the article. --Laura 10:01, 29 December 2007 (CST)
- I think I have the basis for a good rewrite down. Could probably do with another category or to but workable. --Laura 11:01, 29 December 2007 (CST)
[edit] Images
Category:Music charts is where most of the charts disappeared to. No context at all as to where they were and why they were included. When rewriting, they should be easy to find and put in places where their use is more logical. --Laura 10:44, 29 December 2007 (CST)
[edit] BandFic fandom size
Removed the section because lots of those numbers have been updated and the layout was not condusive to giving an idea as to the size of the whole banfic community. The information was just too limited going by fandom. It was also almost tooo easily dated because most of those fandom numbers did not have anything new added and was duplicated on the fandom specific pages. Thoughts on how to handle this section now? --Laura 10:53, 29 December 2007 (CST)
[edit] Mary Sues
Just curious as to why some one changed the Mary Sue thing. Where in fandom were you that Mary Sue needed to be perfect? I originally wrote that bit based on Good Charlotte, Mest, AFI and Fall Out Boy based on fandom experiences from 2003 to 2006 or so. Admittedly, that's a limited pool and no idea outside that community how things are. :) --Laura 15:50, 30 December 2007 (CST)
