[edit] Page focus

Added this page after the Chinese thing came through and added information about it. The wiki is currently being indexed by a Chinese search engine so this type of traffic may increase. I've been told by a WoW player that there is not a fandom in the traditional sense: "i'm not sure if its a fandom in the classical sense though since it is primarly a mmorg." Given that, it seems goofy in trying to figure out how to approach this article as some one not involved it. --Partly_Bouncy 06:56, 16 August 2007 (CDT)

I've been changing the term fan fiction community to fan community or Warcraft community since the fandom and fan related activities are primarily not fan fiction. Most fan created content is more various forms of machimia. I would also like to look at adding more information about the Lore, though it seems unnecessary to bog it down in details considering sources like wow wiki, as well as to turn the history into an actual history instead of just a time line of seemingly or possibly unrelated events.

I'm removing references to FanLib unless someone can show here how it is relevant to the Warcraft/World of Warcraft Community a whole.

--Annoachi 03:53, 9 January 2008 (CST)

Added the FanLib information back in. While more statistical information on the size of perhaps more active/larger parts of the fandom would definitely be appreciated, the wiki does track fan-fiction related activity and the information is considered relevant at this time. --Sidewinder 06:23, 9 January 2008 (CST)
What is the relevance of FanLib (20something stories) to something that has over 9 million subscribers and who's primay fanworks are fan art and videos? It just ends up being a plug of FanLib. I would be a lot happier if there was a reason for it besides "the site deals with fanfiction" It is not a fan community that has fan fiction as a primary output. --Annoachi 07:54, 9 January 2008 (CST)
The fact that there has been fan-fiction produced is relevant, even if it is a small output compared to other activities. Just the fact that it is *not* primarily a fan-fiction oriented fandom as compared to other types of output is revelant to the history we are looking to document. Providing statistical data about other types of fanwork output to illustrate this is encouraged, not deleting information. It is not a "plug" for a particular site, just a piece of statistical data that will be provided for other fan-fiction archives or sites as noted. --Sidewinder 07:59, 9 January 2008 (CST)
Solved this problem by moving fan fiction to a separate page. Given the community involved and their history, doing so will probably make sense to any Warcraft community members who also wander into edit. If this doesn't work, can always be merged back in... --Laura 09:36, 9 January 2008 (CST)

I would have been happier if I had seen larger representations listed *before* or intead of fanlib, rather then a relativly small representation. Having only FanLib listed was misleading to a very large degree. I removed the information at first because it was misleading and a misrepresentation without any other context or in any context. --Annoachi 08:50, 9 January 2008 (CST)

[edit] Coherance

I'd like to have the timeline turned into something resembling a coherent history, and show cause and effect or at least relation for events.

--Annoachi 04:48, 24 January 2008 (CST)

Please talk about it on the talk page before makign major changes. :/ A lot of questionably relevat material was added to the timeline that I wanted to clean up, make more coherent, show how events were related and rewrite in paragraph form. This makes that job a lot harder if I even bother now.

Since normal Wiki ettiquitte has been ignore on this site, and since this site has advertisements for gold sellers, which I find extreamly unethical, I am abandoning editing this article. Best of luck to you all.

[edit] Ongoing edit battle

Before once again deleting out content regarding this news link, please explain why the content should be removed here on the talk page. Or else it's going to keep getting edited back in. Or add more content to the article itself explaining why this content is of debate.--Sidewinder 17:17, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

Wasn't aware people actually discussed things on this wiki after reading the talk page.

This page is currently undergoing a major rewrite, and as such all contributions are more then welcome. However please do not add in LJ, Quizzilla etc sites unless you can connect them to how they might impact the Warcraft community as a whole. The first step I would like to take is to turn the history into something coherent and see how events and big names in the game are actually connected and impact things. If you're in doubt please talk about things first and make changes later.

Just want to clear this up for User:Sidewinder, this is ... *twitches* approved by me, with the knowledge that any information being removed at this time will be put into a separate article at a later date. For the moment, the Warcraft article is being treat as if it has a unified fandom, unlike practically every other fandom out there. Yes, I know that removing the information makes the information not searchable... but it is why the little template was put at the top. Any admin or user can go through the history, mine out the removed information and put it into a new article at any time after this process is started. Given that, we're going to be hands off this article, the main Warcraft article for the time being... with information taken out moved to separate articles later. This compromise is the one that makes us both the most unhappy. She knows that I want that information in there and unhappy to see it go. I know that the information will be back and it makes her unhappy to see it back because she doesn't see a page say titled "Warcraft in Iowa" as important in the least.
This comment is here by reflective of Fan History policy regarding the handling of this article for the forseeable future. If anyone has any questions about it, please let me know. --Laura 20:12, 17 June 2008 (CDT)
OK that's fine, was not aware of the situation so was acting on default. Carry on.--Sidewinder 04:32, 18 June 2008 (CDT)
Information on nonenglish and nonwestern fan activities would be apricated. --84.208.238.159 05:38, 18 June 2008 (CDT)
