The Faculty is a fandom based on the 1998 movie directed by Robert Rodriguez in which aliens take over a small town in Ohio, beginning with the faculty of the town's high school and are defeated by a small group of high school students.
Faculty slash fandom became popular in 2002 and 2003 because of the interest in the film's star Elijah Wood from fans of Lord of the Rings and Lord of the Rings real person fic (Lotrips). The most popular pairing by far is Casey/Zeke, a slash pairing between the students played by Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett.

- On April 1, 2003, the LiveJournal community jacked_up was created to host Faculty slash. [1]
- On March 9, 2004, the LiveJournal community the_faculty was created. [2]
- In April 2004, Angstslashhope founded the fansite Decoy, with information about the film and fandom and links to fanfics.
