The Official Police File was launched in May of 1980, and it was the official monthly fan magazine for the band The Police. Published in London, England, this digest-sized, color magazine featured news and information about the band including concert dates, interviews, biographical information and photos generally provided by the Police organization. It also featured fan contributions in the forms of a letters column, penpal listings, and creative contests including poetry and art competitions with monetary prizes. Popular in this magazine were the many photographs of the band in "exotic" locations including India, Hong Kong, South America, and Australia.

  • The original cover price was 50p. It was increased to 55p with issue 6 in October 1980.
  • The cover price increased to 60p with issue 9 in January 1981.
  • The cover price increased to 70p with issue 15 in July 1981.
  • Issue 20, published in December 1981, was the final issue. The reasons for the magazine folding are unknown.
