ThunderCats was an animated series about a small band of superhero feline humanoids that fled their dying home world and had to learn to survive on a new world. It first aired in the United States in 1985. It was originally produced by Rankin-Bass [1]. There are 130 episodes [2] in the classic series.

Below is a partial timeline of events that took place in this fan community.

  • In 1997, the AOL Thundercats Fan Club (mailing list and chat) was created.
  • In 1997, a large play-by-email Thundercats RPG, run by Alluro and TVRacer, was established.
  • On November 13, 1997, Cheezey's ThunderCats Zone, an early and influential fan site, first came online. [3].
  • In 1998, the IRC chat room #ThundercatChat was established on the IRC channel Afternet by Lefty.
  • In 1998, the "Thundercats Mary Sue Litmus Test" was created.
  • On December 27, 1998, the Yahoo Group Treasures of Thundera, dedicated to the posting and sharing of Thundercats fanfiction, was created. [4] The list existed previously on the now-defunct Coollist/Onelist prior to that.
  • In 1999, the IRC chat room #ThunderCats was established on the IRC channel Afternet by ThunderWolf.
  • On November 24, 1999, the New Thundera RPG was established on the Yahoo Group New Thundera. [5] This game ran in two incarnations, the first from December 1, 1999 through December 11, 2000. A second game storyline was run on this list from December 13, 2002 through January 5, 2004.
  • On October 24, 2000, the Yahoo Group TCATGR, a community for fans to interact, roleplay, and post Thundercats-related material was created by RD Rivero. [6]
  • On July 16, 2002, the LiveJournal community thundercats was created. [7]
