[edit] Introduction
The first of the Tom Rugger/Warner Brother Cartoons, it was also the first of these shows produced by Steven Speilberg.
[edit] The cartoon and canon
In the late 1980s, thanks to Muppet Babies, cartoons about young verisons of well-known characters were all the rage. Warner Brothers jumped on the bandwagon, but disliked the idea of recreating their classic characters. The show's creator decided to make it about new characters, with no relation to the old ones.
The series takes place in a city called Acme Acres, and follows of group of teenage cartoon characters studying at Acme Looniversity under the classic characters, who were their teachers. The show relied on parodies of popular culture, celebrities, and recent movies, as well as classic cartoon slapstick, which made the show appealing and popular to many groups of people. Many of these elements would also be used in the follow-up series, Animaniacs.
