Torchwood has a fairly active fandom for Real person fiction featuring the cast of the series, sometimes crossing over with the cast of Doctor Who. Many of those who write character-based fiction for the series are also involved in writing rpf, and vise-versa. However, the communities still often operate separately and rpf is not always readily accepted in all Torchwood communities.[1] The community is also sensitive regarding the issue of non-celebrity significant others being featured in fictional situations, with some members accepting this convention and others being strongly opposed to it.

- On January 24, 2007, the LiveJournal community tw_rpf was created for posting and sharing Torchwood-related real person fiction.[2] One of the communities main rules was that the community did not allow direct posting of stories where the "primary and/or only pairing is a celebrity and their non-celebrity significant other". Such stories could be linked, however.[3]
