the author of the Uglies series is a man named Scott Westerfeld. He has written five sci-fi adult books. He's also written 3 sets of teenage books. More information about him and his books can be found here: [1]

The Uglies canon is constituted by the trilogy: "Uglies", "Pretties" and "Special" and the companion book "Extras".

Below is a list of terms and their definitions that are used in this fan community.

Flash tattoos- tattoos that move with your heart beat.

Hoverboards- like skateboards, only they are in the air instead of on the ground.

Special Circumstances- the location of the Specials.

Specials- people that are very fast, super strong, and have cruel beauty.

Icy- Special slang for very cool.

Bubbly- Pretty slang for having an adrenilan rush.

Pretties- people who have gotten the Pretty operation.

Pretty operation- an operation people get when they turn 16 that makes them super model gorgeous.

Smokies- people who don't want to turn pretty; city runaways to a place called the Smoke.

The Smoke- a forest that the Smokies live in.

New Pretty Town- the place where all the New Pretties live.

Littlies- people aged 11 and under; children.

Crumblies- Older pretties that have already been through new pretties and middle pretties.

Crumblyville- the place where Crumblies live.

Uglyville- the place where people ages 12-16 live before they get the Pretty operation.
