Social Userpages
Sometime soon, we're going to be installing an extension that looks like this when installed. I'm looking for any feedback on it. The positive of the extension is that it allows private messaging on the wiki, makes finding what edits people have done easier, encourages people to build their user pages by making it less intimidating. The fields aren't necessarily ideal. They can be changed and likely will be changed. The extension also allows for people to have "friends" which can be helpful if you're working on a section of the wiki and are looking for people to help assist in working on a section. Or at least make the user pages a bit more fun. --Laura 08:42, 18 June 2008 (CDT)
Stability
Fan History has done a lot to increase the stability of the server. We're still working on fixing that. Updates regarding our status are generally found on the main article for the site. - I've pretty much given you free reign with what you're doing and backed far away. :) As long as you're adding and not removing, I'm cool with it. Later, either myself or Sidewinder may come through and do some minor wiki tweaking but shouldn't be anything major. (And we've amended one or two templates for a few things as you've done some really nice things with things like episode articles in ways that I wasn't sure would work with the wiki.) Uploads should work but there are occasional hiccups. If you run across one, let me or Emufarmers know. There seems to be a problem with putting images on the Fan History site. I was doing this yesterday without a problem; but today I've been getting an error message.
The image seems to upload all right: a page is created for it, and the image appears just fine on that page--but only on that page.
I put that the image in, and that does indeed appear at the bottom of the image's own page to indicate its subcategorization. However, when I go to the page for the Forever Knight images category, there's no thumbnail of the picture. Instead, there is a large box containing this message:
Error creating thumbnail: /home/emufarmers/public_html/fanhistory.com/public/bin/ulimit4.sh: line 4: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory
Then, when I try to insert the image in a wiki page, it is this error box that appears instead of the picture.
I've tried twice, with the same result. Given that I was doing it exactly the same yesterday and it went okay, I think it must be a problem at your end--either with the upload or thumbnailing software.
The two images are: Tn_lytd_104crop.jpg and Tn_badb_123crop.jpg.

I'm getting an error message when I try to save a revised version of one of the pages, On Holy Ground. The message reads:
Database error A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was: (SQL query hidden) from within function "EditSimilar::getResults". MySQL returned error "1146: Table 'fhwiki.categorylinks' doesn't exist (localhost)".
I don't know what's going on here, but it's obviously at your end.

- Glad to hear you're on to the problem. I find I also can't make new pages--which means I've got two windows sitting here waiting to have their contents saved. What is really odd is that some things actually do save--such as this page.

- Now this is odd. When I originally tried to modify On Holy Ground I got an error message. I still do when I try to input the changes. But!--I just "searched" for the page, and discovered that the change was in fact made.
- Now I also tried to create Forever Knight character images - Group shots, and also got an error message. (To complicate matters, if this page did get made, it was a mistake. I actually wanted to make a category page, i.e. "Category: Forever Knight character images - Group shots".) Anyway, the point is that, while I do seem to be able to use "Search" to find individual pages, I get an error message on both of these names. Not just the usual "you can create this page" message, but an error message.
- This error includes the line "MySQL returned error "1146: Table 'fhwiki.categorylinks' doesn't exist (localhost)". Looking at it, I wonder if there's a typo here. Should Table 'fhwiki.categorylinks' maybe read fkwiki? I am dealing with Forever Knight pages, so FK would be the appropriate abbreviation. --Greer Watson 6:31pm, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
No, fhwiki is the database being called on. Categorylinks is the table in the table. There is obviously something weird going on with how it does that. We also have an error at this category that we're not certain why it is appearing. :( --Laura 22:34, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- fhwiki = Fan History wiki. Gotcha.
- By the way, I'm still getting error messages on changes to pages--and then finding that the pages have actually been changed correctly. But, to find out, I have to open a new window, since the browser gets stuck on the error message and won't move to another Fan History page. Just keeps bringing up the error message. I dropped some database tables earlier today that should have been unused; unfortunately, one of the extensions installed on the wiki is coded in such a way that it doesn't respect the layout of our database. I have disabled the extension for now, so you should not have any more errors of this sort. —Emufarmers 00:14, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The TOC alpha thing works beautifully. It's elegant, simple to use, and it will make browsing in whacking great categories much easier.

Odd name page
There'a a page called "Writing5w33th3rt" for a fanfiction.net user named "glaceauxfraises".Saw it on the recent changes page and thought it was odd.

Request for deletion of duplicate article headers
Deletion requests, as follows:
- Category:Star Trek awards (is a duplicate of the existing)
- Category:Man from U.N.C.L.E. fanzines covers (was a mistype of the existing)

- Category:Starsky and Hutch fanzines covers (was a mistype of)
Just found the Star Trek one today - the rest I had saved up while cleaning up the fanzine covers and sorting them into their proper fandoms.

User:Soda has [[Category:Template]] tagged to the article. The article is locked, so I can't remove the link.

- That page has [[Category:Template]] in their article page code, so their page shows up in the template category. I'm guessing it probably shouldn't be there.

Move from Main to Fan Fiction?
What is fan fiction history? should this remain under [[Category:Main]] or be moved to [[Category:Fan fiction]]? Is there a category or subcategory just for articles dealing with fanthrolopology and fan history? It would make browsing easier to provide a category/subcategory string for just that sort of article.

- That's fine. Category:Main was all about having a category to shove top level things that I could not find a place to otherwise have. And it probably fits better there. And yeah, as I realize it is locked as it is an essay, I'll go do that now. --Laura 23:39, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Laura - thanks for the help. Am pretty much done with basic construction on the Forever Knight pages. Have asked the fandom to help with the filling in bit. Am now working on constructing the SAJV pages and probably one or two small fandom pages, plus will work on getting my fanfic and fanzine listings in order. I also took the liberty of cleaning up the Television Conventions category and sorted cons into their proper places, as well as created a few subcategory homes linked to the fandom's main categories. I'm adding media fandom terms to the main television terminology section, in addition to some industry terms which are mentioned in fandom. I'm still working out the images and boxes technology. If you need me to change what I'm doing anywhere, just let me know. Regards.
