Laura's finds

  1. Fix RSS so it works.
    • I think it is the statcounter.com plugin. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 02:47, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
      • No idea what it actually was, but it works now. --ShakataGaNai 23:32, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
  2. Make it so User:Fan Fiction Stat Bot and User:LiveJournal Stat Bot work.
  3. Figure out how to add additional fandoms to User:Fan Fiction Stat Bot and User:LiveJournal Stat Bot's list.
  4. Make it so allow we can upload multiple files.
    • Another bites the dust --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 01:17, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
  5. Special:Bunchpatrol occassionally has issues. Consistently working would be awesome.
    • This didn't get re-installed. Wikihow doesn't maintain any of their extension pages, I can't even find the code for it anymore. --ShakataGaNai 23:17, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
      • BunchPatrol has been re-installed, but I'm not sure how well it is gonna work. I had to hack it just to get it to run correctly and there are already uglyness on screen (IE <bunchpatrol> ). Unfortunately I don't think WikiHow's code is any good in the recent versions. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 04:58, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it's working better than ever. I hope we can keep it. --Tikatu 14:04, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
  1. MenuTabs extension stopped working (and being supported by Mediawiki person who created it) when we upgraded beyond 1.10. Would be nice for that to function again. Example page Category:Star Trek.
    • This is installed, but I see now there are issues, to be solved later, hopefully. --ShakataGaNai 23:17, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
      • Installed & functional (removed annoying tag problem) --ShakataGaNai 23:32, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Tikatu's finds

  1. <talkpagetext> at the top of talk pages when in edit mode.
  2. Mousing over Save page, Show preview, Show changes and Save draft buttons give not only the function description but also things like [<accesskey-save>] [<accesskey-preview>] [<accesskey-diff>] and [alt-g]</nowiki>.
  3. <new section> as a new edit tab? Not sure but the tab shouldn't look like that, anyway.
Will add more as I see them. --User:Tikatu
  • Thank you. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 03:07, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
  1. People Tabs has People
with the word "People" as a link. --Tikatu 05:30, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
    • Where? --ShakataGaNai 06:10, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
      • Found and dealt with-ish. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 02:33, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
  1. I'm using the blue skin (always have), and have noticed that when I go to a page for patrolling, there is a line under "Navigation" that crosses the page, and that the blue bar cuts through the Amazon ad in the upper right corner. --Tikatu 23:25, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
    • I turned off all the skins except monobook... so.. I'm not sure what to tell you. We'll force you to upgrade ::mwahahahaha:: --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 23:27, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
  • I still have the blue skin, though I have no idea how. It even reappeared after I recently logged off and back on again. I like it, and won't upgrade unless there's something less... bright to upgrade to. --Tikatu 15:19, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
I'll have to investigate which one is the "blue" one. Hopefully at some point in the future I'll get us upgraded to 1.16 and then you can use vector.--ShakataGaNai ^_^ 18:57, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
In answer to your question, it's the "modern" skin. I really like it more than the default (smiles weakly). --Tikatu 04:36, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Modern re-enabled. Dunno how that effects some of the other stuff we're up to, but... ::shrug::. Like I said before, we're gonna switch to Vector here in not too long anyways. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 07:14, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Charlie's Finds

  • WebKit bug involving the sidebar. Sidebar is being pushed down below content. KHTMLFixes.css is causing the problem, it should be removed (doesn't look like it's necessary, as it's not actually fixing anything. Rather, it's causing bugs).

--User:Charlie 02:24, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Noted. I've got a Mac here so I'll take a look and see what I can do. It might have to wait for the "big refresh" --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 02:32, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Problem was with the old skin. Currently not in play so "fixed" --ShakataGaNai 23:33, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Ipod

When viewing on my ipod, the tabs are half covered by the body part table.--Laura 00:48, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Yea. Thats true of any copy of monobook. IIRC there are iphone friendly skins, which I'll investigate. --ShakataGaNai 02:11, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Are the tabs supposed to appear on the bottom of articles now? Not sure if that is intentional or not. Interesting but also weird for me. (Will take a while to get used to.) --Laura 04:40, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Sidewinder's finds

Special:UploadCSV does not appear to be working as it should. When I tried to upload some data from a csv file, I encountered two errors/changes from before:

1. For Template you have to now manually enter the template name instead of having a browsable list available. This can be problematic if trying to find a previously used template but you can't remember the exact name of the template.

2. When I found the template I wanted to use, selected my Source filename, and attempted to upload, I just kept getting Error: File not found. I've never had this error before.

Since I tend to do a lot of data uploading for the wiki via csv upload, I'm definitely hoping this can be fixed... I've got a couple thousand categories to add that would be painful to do manually... --Sidewinder 12:44, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

You people and your krazy kategories. Well I installed that code from source, so my assumption is that the previous version was patched in someway (or the new code is suckier than the old). I'll go pull the old code when I have time, see what I can find, and get back to you. --ShakataGaNai 18:28, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
You have to understand, we used that extension to clear through about 10,000 wanted categories. We had done 5,000 before that manually. It took the person about... 2 weeks of just doing that full time. We're also librarian like organized. :D We need our category structure. --Laura 19:47, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes, category structure and other abilities for database uploading are pretty necessary around here. I really need this to build the categories for all the Geocities fanpages I've just finished uploading. Have no idea when I could get around to doing it manually.--Sidewinder 20:29, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
On a plus side, we had Special:WantedCategories (which problem! problem Will Robinson! won't load for me or times out. We used to cache this page before) down to about 4,000 before you helped with the Geocities thing. :) There are only 7,301 now. It would be awesome to get it back down to under 1,000. The whole thing is a mess in a lot of ways and with the other problems treeing some things where we discovered no connections when they should be there... *sighs* --Laura 20:46, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
The specials work, they simply take a long time to load. 30-45 seconds. I know it sucks for them to take so long and cache was nicer, but after yesterday's "run in" with the update process taking 3+ hours (and taking out things like Recent Changes with it), I think this is the "better" solution for now. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 23:35, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
<- I replaced the "new" UploadCSV with the "old" copy. "New" being v0.2, "Old" being v0.2.3. the version available for download is what I'd previously installed (v0.2), It seems someone updated it to mostly work. Though the copyright says 2007, so it is a number of versions out of date. Unlikely it will continue to work much longer. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 05:14, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks - working fine now!--Sidewinder 12:34, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Special Pages pushes back into caches (miser) mode. Though it takes an EXTREMELY long time to update, as seen here. This is a problem that will require digging to figure out what's wrong. For now you're limited to only the first 100 records (testing bits to see what helps) --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 08:44, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Skin...

The bg is a vertical yellow gradiant, and the logo might use some sprucing up (But DON'T CHANGE THE CHARACTER!) <giggles anonymously> - 128.189.227.221 21:24, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll kill you and the horse you rode in on. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 21:34, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Template trouble?

Something seems messed up/missing with the disambiguation template at the moment. (Sample page where it's used: Callisto.--Sidewinder 13:00, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Ah, yea. Due to one of my WP imports, didn't notice, sorry. Seems Laura got it. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 09:53, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
