User talk:Tikatu

Jump to: navigation, search

Hey. You're one of our top contributors this week.  :) I wanted to thank you for your additions. If you haven't, please consider making a user page. Help:Contents has a few user boxes which might help with that. At any rate, thank you again and I hope you come back and continue to make more additions to Fan History Wiki. --Laura 11:16, 5 September 2007 (CDT)

Thanks for the heads up on the user boxes! I had fun making one! And I've been promoting FanHistory among the Thunderbirds crowds, mostly by mentioning that some of them already have pages created here by the bot. --Tikatu 23:27, 22 April 2008 (EDT)

YOU!  ::points, then pounces:: Great to see you somewhere outside fic_simplicity. SLWatson 23:06, 22 April 2008 (EDT)

Yeah! Me! ::pounces back:: LOL! I've found this place to be an interesting venue to bring my fandom further into the spotlight. --Tikatu 23:27, 22 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Redirect

Since you're moving all your stuff, d'you want your original page redirected to the new one? SLWatson 12:11, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

Actually, I'd like to know how to go about making just one page entitled: Tikatu. I was moving my content from the self-created page to the bot created page because that's the one listed with "Thunderbirds Fans" and in the "People" category and I didn't know how to put the self-created one there. I'm still not very savvy of wiki procedure and "how-to" stuff, I'm afraid. What would you advise? --Tikatu 12:38, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

Ouch! Okay, what you wanna do is now move everything back to the original Tikatu page, and then I can just add your categories for you there. Then, what you can do is ask User:Laura or one of the admins to delete the 'bot created page, or I can just put in a redirect for you like I just did for my sister's 'bot created one.
Cool beans! Thanks! :D --Tikatu 12:45, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
Lemme know what you've got everything moved, okay? And d'you want me to just redirect the Fanfiction.Net author version, or delete it altogether? SLWatson 13:01, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
I've double checked and everything's moved. I'd rather the bot page be deleted altogether - I guess it's the housekeeper in me! Thanks! --Tikatu 13:15, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
All done! If you need any other help navigating or learning the ropes, just gimme a shout! SLWatson 13:25, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Lillehafrue

Since Lillehafrue is a moderator in my RPG, and the other mods have their ff.net pages already, I created this - with her permission. When her ff.net page becomes available, I'll help her merge the two pages. --Tikatu 20:36, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Voltron fans

Lillehafrue is a Voltron fan, so I added that people directory for her and all the other Voltron fans who are listed. --Tikatu 20:37, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

[edit] color issues

I copied the userboxes from my wiki page to my social page and for some reason, the colors on the livejournal and iragent userboxes is way off. Any reason for this?--Tikatu 17:39, 24 June 2008 (CDT)

ETA: here's the error message I get when trying to edit my social userpage: Fatal error: Call to a member function getID() on a non-object in /home/fandomin/public_html/includes/Skin.php on line 1062 --Tikatu 15:11, 25 June 2008 (CDT)
Can you go bug User:Emufarmers on his talk page? --Laura 15:51, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

Some of the skins don't appear to interact well with the SocialProfile extension. I will try to fix the issue; in the meantime, you can still edit your social page despite the error, and you can switch to the default skin if the error bothers you. Emufarmers 17:00, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Aeiouna

If you wouldn't mind locking that other page for me (just in case the FF.net bot sees it missing and tries to recreate it that'd be great. I already set up the redirect and checked it. :)

No problem. --Tikatu 04:28, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User Boxes

Sure, I wouldn't mind some user boxes tikatu. First off, you would have to explain what they are. I assumed they are the boxes like under your page. BTW-When I registered, it didn't pick up my name correctly(probably a typo from me) and now I have two pages. Do you think you could just delete the Nate k page in favor of the Nate K page? Nate K 18:04, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the userboxes are what I have on my user page, and in my article as well. I created a Kirk v Picard one with you in mind. Check out Fanhistory.com:Available_userboxes for a list of the ones you can use.
As far as deleting a page goes, are you talking about your [[User:Nate_k]] page? I can't remove that, I'm afraid - that's your account name, and MediaWiki isn't set up for account removal. Or do you want your user page (Nate_k) to reference your People article - which is a different matter altogether? The user page and the article are two different things - that's why my own User page has links to my article and the Thunderbirds article. I can redirect from your user page to your article if you like. Let me know which. --Tikatu 19:46, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I put some userboxes up and I actually sort of created one for DS9. Don't worry about the Nate k page. I think I've got something that will link all of them up.Nate K 20:48, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cheyne

I locked the Cheyne article as per the subject's request. She contacted me through LJ messaging, and provided me with proof of identity through fanfiction.net's PM system. --Tikatu 22:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Esgaroth

My deepest deepest apologies. I have just been notified of the issues with editing the Russell Crowe fanfiction page. I was in the process of editing and revising some links, erased some and got called away from the computer to do some Real Life stuff before I replaced them and got everything back in order. It was NOT my intention to vandalize the site, just bring it up to date and refine some of the newer information as weve had new activity in the fandom itself. Please let me know what I can do. Best...

[edit] Actor fandom categories

Before we go changing default sort to last name instead of first, we might want to discuss it. It would involve changing a couple hundred pages if we're aiming for consistency. I'm really not necessarily sold on doing that unless some one is committed to changing everything in Category:Actor fandom categories and the sub categories. It is a huge project... and from having seen the effort to get all the Special:WantedCategories done? It is a lot of time consuming monotony. If some one is willing to do that though, and really commit to doing that, then we can create a help page for actor fandom categories to explain that last name, first should be the default search for all actors. --Laura 15:01, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I like the idea from an organizational standpoint along as, as you've said, there's follow through to make sure it's done consistently and that the appropriate help pages are updated (or built to support it).--Sidewinder 16:38, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Though I also like the idea, all the categories that are being created now are first name first. Unless there is someone who is willing to make those changes, then I would say leave well enough alone. People are more likely to search for an actor by first name-surname than by the opposite. If we were to change the sorting, then the current forms would likely need redirects. --Tikatu 17:14, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay, now that I've looked at the batch patrol, I see the "Default sort" has surnames first. Duh. If our default sort to this point has been surnames last, I think it should stay that way. Unless, as everyone has said, we have someone willing to put in the time to change them all. It's easier to revert the 160+ we have now than to go through and change the rest. --Tikatu 18:01, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Russet Noon

Thanks for the heads up. Not certain what to do regarding the person who put in private information. :/ You're the person who handles that 90% of the time so if she deserves a ban and we should have given her one, please feel free to comment on her talk page, the talk page for the article (so people can more easily make the connection) and ban her. The private attack in the middle of an irrelevant section just pisses me off. On a page about that individual would make sense. Where she put it? No. And the address and phone numbers... Do we need to revisit Help:People and Help:Rules to make sure our policy is clear? Or more clear in that regards? x-posting this to User:Sidewinder's talk as she was the major contributor to the article. --Laura 03:35, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Contributed pages

I've noticed people making edits to pages about themselves. When you're patrolling, if you could add {{Selfcontributed articles|User name}} to those pages, it might be really helpful. That way, when other admins look at an article, they can tell who was editing. --Betsyb 16:30, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I'll try to do that when possible. --Tikatu 17:09, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Roswell

Is there anything we need to do in regards to Talk:Roswell and Roswell? I haven't checked it but there is a link in to it and yeah. --Laura 13:48, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

There's discussion over whether to remove the kerfluffles listed as they have no citations, and appear to have all been added (about a year ago) by one person anonymously. I don't know anything about the fandom myself, not even where to go to look for citations for the claims made.--Sidewinder 13:58, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
The incoming link is here. I don't suppose you could edit and toss on some {{fact}} tags? --Laura 14:14, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
I had done so already, back about a year ago. I see the page was locked due to vandalism in the past, but I think we need to add more article boxes, maybe re-open for registered users if there are issues about fairness of the article?--Sidewinder 14:31, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah. My bad. I unlocked the page totally as a show of good faith, moved the table of contents. I will stick an NPOV tag on it in a second. Anything else that you think we can do? --Laura 14:36, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Russet Noon Update on Cover Image

Hi, Tikatu. I noticed you've been the most frequent editor of the Russet Noon article, so I'm sending you an update on the "Blood Roses" image by Charli Siebert. I just received an email from her, informing me that she does not want me to use her image for the cover of the book.

Charli wrote to Sybilla: "Unfortunately, I do not give out permission for use of my work in any way, so you'll have to find another cover for your book."

Charli also added, "All of your advertising and marketing of the book containing the image will need to be removed from any and all publications. This includes all print advertising and websites that display the image. If there are websites that you are aware of that are displaying the book cover in question, it is your responsibility to contact them and inform them that they need to remove the image from their site."

Based on Charli's specific request, I am asking that you please remove the old Russet Noon cover currently on display in the article. And, if it's not too much to ask, please add a note to the article to confirm that Russet Noon will have a new cover image before it gets published. Please let me know if you need me to upload a screencap of Charli's email as proof.

Last part of the update is that Charli and I are in negotiations to have her create a new image exclusively for the new Russet Noon cover.

Thanks very much.

Artistic revolution 07:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

What I would propose be done is that any image files including the original artwork by Charli be "selectively blurred" so as not to entirely delete and lose documents (such as website screencaptures) which are important to preserving the history related to Russet Noon. Given that FanHistory uses image files for informational purposes only, not for advertising and marketing, normally we would not remove such content without a DMCA being filed (as explained in Help:Article_deletion#Intellectual_Property_Policy). But I propose to the other mods we could take the above step instead - as long as we were provided with a direct copy of Charli's request for removal of the artwork and not just word of mouth.--DarkAngelFan06 16:02, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree that we need to hear from the artist herself - through a direct copy of what she sent you, at least. I also think the idea of blurring the image is an excellent one; it would allow us to keep the images we have as historical documents, but give consideration to Ms. Seibert's wishes. --Tikatu 19:56, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Geocities Preservation Project revisited

This is a cross post from Sidewinder's talk page... just so you know.

I adore my current bot developer but I don't think we can count on him to do the Google scrape, mostly because there are some natural language issues that he has indicated he doesn't know well enough in order to address. He also doesn't seem to think that the results would be worth it... and considering the amount of garbage that Betsyb has reported when screencapping, I'm inclined to believe him. :/ What this leaves is the story collection information. (I've got a collection of about 2,000 links for that. It isn't that big, considering everything on Geocities but it is still a great sight better than nothing. It also leaves us getting historical information and other bits like Star Trek history that you've been doing. That just takes a lot of time. :/

Betsyb has been putting all the screencaps in Category:Fan fiction archives on Geocities images. These really need to be sorted better. She's going for speed, not information gathering and some of the caps are pretty bad. :( My fear is that she does all that capping work, and then those images never get used and we totally ignore the category. I'm just not certain what else we can do at this point, you know? Do you have any thoughts on the subject? Or am I just busy being really pessimistic with out cause? (Have I mentioned that the Geocities issue, now that I want to preserve it, makes me feel stressed out?) --Laura 14:37, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for adding the Neutrality Disputed box. I was looking for that in the help files and didn't find it. --Kathryn Cramer 16:52, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. Glad to help.--Tikatu 17:01, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox

Hi, I've been having trouble creating an infobox template to use on a page me and a friend have been working on. Bhaalspawn

I have my own author page, and I want to put an infobox on the side, that gives my PenName, age, preferred genres, writing format, and several other kinds of info relateed to the stories I have written. Bhaalspawn

Thanks, I really appreciate this. Bhaalspawn

[edit] Lovett Art

The ones I identified and sent to her were:

You got all the others Jessency 10:43, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Okay. I'll work on these, but if they've won awards, then they're notable. I'll need to discuss with the other admins how to deal with them if they're notable. As of now, if they're award winners (and they should say that they are in the article, yes?) then I'll leave them pending further discussion.
Also, it seems that the FanQ links are dead as the site was hosted on AOL Hometown, and that's been closed. Do you have any other links for the FanQ awards? Thanks. --Tikatu 15:35, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
You are right about Heatwave; Cover is by Caren Parnes. I have sent her an email about other covers. Also Cover of Murder on San Carmelitas is by Lynne(or Lynna) Bright. As for FanQ; I have used the following link; http:www.mediawest.org/fanq.htm. I never added FanQ's for artists because never could figure out if award was for a particular piece or what? Jessency 21:13, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] to-do list

Just making myself a list of all the titles. When I've finished with a page, I'll delink it, and if something's won an award, I'll put an exclamation point after it. --Tikatu 16:01, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thunderbirds fansites

I'm doing some link building on AboutUs. The easiest place to find domains was in Category:Fansites and while going through there, I cleaned out , organized and moved the Thunderbirds fansites to Category:Thunderbirds fansites. Let me know if you have any issues with that. --Laura 13:48, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm okay with it. Nice to have a category of our own! I'll likely be adding to it, as soon as I get this pesky disambig out of the way. --Tikatu 13:50, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
I just like seeing things a bit cleaner and more organized. :) --Laura 14:13, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Users not reading talk page comments...

On the off chance that they go back to edit the page in question, it might be worth tossing in a comment at the top that is invisible. It might be something that they are more likely to read. I just made a bunch of mark up on Rupert Grint after I discovered some problems so that if people are wondering why I did things the way I did, it becomes really clear. --Laura 05:56, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Article

Hiya,

My Penname has changed from Justina Moriarty to Unicorn Giggles. I've edited my page with a little information about myself but I can't get rid of my old name on the top. Could you change it to Unicorn Giggles, please?

Thanks,

U.G.

I think it is either colognblue or modern. Anyways, post back on my talk page. Thanks. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 23:58, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for blocking that vandal

I was just looking at the history page for my author profile. Saw all the crap some guy was putting there. Anyway, thanks for reverting it and blocking the IP address.

[edit] Another Anti-Vandal Thank You

Thank you for reverting and protecting my page this spring (May 16-22 2009, then protected through August). I believe HenryIGale was the reviewer I told to bug off on FanFiction.net after s/he complained that my versions of the Criminal Minds characters were too AU.
