Around FFN in 1998 or 1999 there was a huge, though mostly tongue in cheek, "VIW war" (Very Important Writer for those who weren't in AM fandom. Our version of BNFs) that began to get out of hand so the three of us involved had to write fics to end it showing we actually were all friends and that it was meant to be humorous. It was all about Mary Sues/Self insertions run amok.[2]
