What Badfic Isn't

Badfic has become a loosely-used term these days, so loose that people will use it to describe any fic they hate or that doesn't meet their personal standards. More often than not, this includes:
- a story that portrays their favorite characters in a way they disagree with
- a story that breaks up their favorite pairing for whatever reason
- anything that goes against a fan's personal view of a character/pairing/event
- any type of story that's done badly 9 out of 10 times (Alternative Universe/reality, blanket scenario, love triangles, hurt/comfort, body-switching, etc)
- non-canon pairings
- original characters
If the story is labeled badfic for the above reasons but is otherwise well-written, the story is most likely not badfic and the reader is just incredibly picky.
