[edit] Involvement in fandom

Below is a partial timeline of this author's involvement in the fan community.

  • He became active in fandom early in the 1980s when he joined Minn-stf.
  • On January 19, 2009, Coffeeandink wrote a LiveJournal posted titled "Will Shetterly: DO NOT ENGAGE". [1][citation dead link] [2] Will Shetterly alleged that this post "cherry-picked quotes and framed them to make me look like I was saying things I was not. In the comments there, veejane, icecreamempress, vom_marlowe, and others speculated with great fail about my life." [3][citation dead link]
  • On January 24, 2009, Will Shetterly learned about coffeeandink’s post. He claimed that because he was banned from her site, he wrote annotating madness. [4][5][citation dead link]
  • On February 24, 2009, Will Shetterly, "thinking about how freely my critics made assumptions about me, I googled a few of their names and “class”, then wrote looking at a few of my critics, champions of the upper class, At that time, I hadn’t known[redacted] was hiding her last name. When I googled “[redacted] coffeeandink” to be sure I remembered it correctly, it came up in the first few hits, probably because “she “outed” herself” long ago." [6] [citation dead link] For many years, Coffeeandink used her distinctive first name as her user name on her LiveJournal, and she was so casual about using her last name in public posts about her work and her convention appearances that K. Tempest Bradford linked Coffeeandink's legal and LiveJournal names at Fantasy Magazine. [7]
  • On February 25, 2009, because deepad’s comment that she is “upper class” stuck with him, Will Shetterly wrote "what is upper class “in India”?" [8][citation dead link] [9][10][citation dead link]
  • On February 26, 2009, Coffeeandink wrote Will Shetterly, saying she wished to keep her last name private. So Will Shetterly removed it, then blogged about it. [11][citation dead link] [12][citation dead link]
  • On February 26, 2009, vom_marlowe wrote a post titled "Fucking Will Shetterly Insults Me and My Family." Will Shetterly alleges that "Vom continued the wild speculations about me, but this time, I was grateful. She inspired me to write something for my mom and sister, which I should’ve written long ago." [13][citation dead link] [14][15][citation dead link]
  • On March 2, 2009, deepad wrote "To burn a bridge is sometimes as necessary as to build one," saying that by quoting her on being upper class, Will Shetterly was making “erroneous assumptions” about her. [16][citation dead link]
  • On March 2, 2009, Will Shetterly posted about coffeeandink's history of using her legal name on her LiveJournal. [17][citation dead link]
  • On March 7, 2009, Coffeeandink was still being both public and private about her name; on her LiveJournal, she wrote, "Please also explain how I was hiding my identity ... with a user profile that lists my very identifiable first name, in a post that is signed with my very identifiable first name." [18]
  • On April 17, 2009, Will Shetterly announced that he had deleted his WordPress blog and would either be blogging at his new Blogger account, or somewhere yet to be determined. [19]
  • On May 6, 2009, Will Shetterly explained why he moved his blog from WordPress to Blogger and readdressed the question of whether he had outed Coffeeandink. [20]
  • On May 8, 2009, Will Shetterly announced that he was no longer crossposting his blog entries to LiveJournal.[21]
