Introduction

The X-Men are a Marvel Comics superhero team that has since spawned several other teams, and spans more then half a dozen separate comic books as well as having a large role in the Marvel Universe itself. Despite the teams having a multitude of names and members in the last forty years, the fandom itself is often referred to by the original team name.

X-Men fandom can be further subdivided according to media: these include the X-Men movieverse (also referred to as XMM), X-Men: Evolution in reference to the cartoon aired on Kids' WB from 2000 to 2003 (shortened to XME or Evo), XMTAS referencing to the X-Men: The Animated Series, and WXM or WatX in reference to the current X-men cartoon, Wolverine and the X-Men (2008-present).

Pairings

The X-Men fandom has a large number of popular pairings, each with their own dedicated fans, terms and culture. Uniquely, because of the sheer number of characters and canonical relationships, the majority of X-Men fiction from 1994-2004 was organized based on genre, plot and characterization, as opposed to pairings. It wasn't until the popularity of the movies and the transition to Livejournal communities that pairings were used as classifications similar to other fandoms.

A more robust article, including specific links can be found at the X-Men Fandom Pairings page.

Pete/Kitty

  • The relationship between Kitty Pryde and Pete Wisdom, based from Warren Ellis' Excalibur run, which proved hugely popular with the fanfiction community. Highly controversal, especially with Kitty Pryde fans, the relationship enjoyed strong support in fiction and fan pages, the most noted being Luba Kmetyk's Pryde & Wisdom Fanfic

Remy/Rogue

  • Infamously popular in X-Men fandom is the pairing of Remy LeBeau and Rogue. This pairing is so prevelant that it has spawned a multitude of pairing-specific livejournal communities, message boards and fanfic archives.
