xxxHOLiC is a manga created by CLAMP, which has also been made into a lighter anime adaptation, comprising of twenty-four episodes. It is currently being translated and published in America by Del Rey Manga. It is parallel to the plot of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, and the plots intertwine. It also serves to bond all the works of CLAMP together; CLAMP are fond of crossovers, and their works are often self-referential or feature characters in alternative universes. The title refers to addiction: holic is appended to a word to describe addiction, such as alcoholic for alcohol.
xxxHOLiC also has a movie, A Midsummer Night's Dream, which is also the title of a Shakespeare play.

Watanuki Kimihiro is the protagonist. A young high school boy, he lives on his own. He has quite a temper but is well-grounded; Yuuko in particular seems to aggravate him. He agrees with her to work for her in her shop in return for a granted wish -- to never see the spirits which haunt him again. Although he detests being haunted, he often helps people with his ability.
He is in love with cheerful but unfortunate Himawari Kunogi, who seems, like Sakura in Cardcaptor Sakura, oblivious to her admirer. She cares deeply for both Watanuki and Shizuka Doumeki, Watanuki's classmate and, in a fashion, rival. He is something of a polar opposite to Watanuki, calm and sarcastic at times, and also observant. Watanuki considers him the favourite of Himawari, leading to jealousy.
Yuuko Ichihara, sometimes spelt Yuko, is an enigmatic time-space witch. She sells wishes at her wish shop, in return for various payment (in Tsubasa, she requires the dearest thing the characters own so as to enable them to travel through worlds). She enjoys angering and teasing Watanuki, but can be serious and wise. Yuuko is a psuedonym; she says that giving one's true name enables that person to control one, so she never reveals her name. She has a very multi-dimensional personality; although she can be quite cutting and sarcastic to Watanuki, and has a malicious streak, she has a profound understanding of the human personality and its emotions. She is lazy, whimsical, and eccentric, with a penchant for alcohol; Watanuki often must cure her hangovers. Like Fai from Tsubasa, her outrageous and flamboyant behaviour covers up a darker side to both her character and the story itself.
