[edit] Introduction

Concept Art of Link from Twilight Princess
The Zelda series was created by Nintendo. The first game, The Legend of Zelda, was released in Japan in 1986 and then a year later in America (1987). Although the series has changed greatly since its creation, it features many repeated aspects, most importantly the characters Princess Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf/Ganon, and the relic the Triforce.

[edit] Main Games

These are the Zelda games that were created by Nintendo.

[edit] Other Games

The games listed here were developed by other companies.

  • Link: The Faces of Evil
  • Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon
  • Zelda's Adventure
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

It is worth noting that the former three games were not created by Nintendo in any way, shape or form, only as an offshoot from a failed deal between Nintendo and Phillips to create a CD add-on for the SNES that allowed Phillips to use Nintendo's characters in four games (the fourth one being a Mario-based game called "Hotel Mario"), and are not considered "canon" by either Nintendo or most of the series' fen.  Meanwhile, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, and The Minish Cap were developed by Capcom's Flagship Studio, and, though Nintendo didn't develop them, per se, Nintendo was involved in the development process and these games are considered canonical.

[edit] Kerfluffles

The Zelda fan fiction community has traditionally had a problem with Mary Sues. The most famous one is Link's Queen. When The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released, the fandom also had a problem with scams.

In March of 2007, an announcement that Dampe, the creator of the 2-D version of Ocarina of Time, had been killed in a car accident was made by Joystiq.[12] However, most doubted the verity of this claim, and fen generally believe that Dampe simply didn't want to continue the project anymore and commited pseucide rather than dealing with the situation properly.[13]

On November 3, 2007, some of the Zelda fen participated in a kink meme. When a post about it was made to the zelda_lovers community on LiveJournal, some people wanked about age and sex in the fandom.[14]
